Angela was born in Upstate N.Y. She came to Asheville in the early 2000's. She taught elementary school in New York and in Asheville. When her oldest child went to school, he had a great deal of difficulty learning to read. He, and later his little sister, were both diagnosed with dyslexia. Her children's learning challenges opened her eyes to a whole new world, dyslexia and Orton-Gillingham. The Orton-Gillingham method profoundly changed both of her children's lives, they learned to read. Angela went on to recieve her training at the Key Learning Center. She tutored for a bit then was asked to teach language comprehensive classes at the Key School. She spent two years teaching at Key. It was an amazing experience, but she needed to be more available to her now teenagers. Angela feels passionately about helping young children with their reading struggles. She has seen the effects on a bright student's self esteem when they face reading challenges. She hopes her experience and expertise can help children in the community mitigate these challenges.
Ellyn was born in the mountains of Western North Carolina, but her family moved to Nashville, Tennessee, when she was four years old. From a young age, she enjoyed playing "school" and knew she wanted to work with children when she grew up.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the College of Charleston and started working at various museums, where she contributed to children’s programs. Later, she relocated to Charlotte and served as the lead education coordinator at a local museum. She furthered her education by obtaining an Early Elementary School Degree from UNC Charlotte, which led her to work as a Kindergarten teacher.
After moving to Asheville, Ellyn joined a local private school, where she was introduced to Orton-Gillingham. She completed her OG training in 2020 and has been teaching using the Orton-Gillingham approach ever since.
